1. What is SSC IT Officer in the Indian Navy?
The Indian Navy recruits officers through two types of commissions — Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC). This recruitment is for Short Service Commission in the Executive Branch, Information Technology (IT) stream.
As an IT Officer in the Indian Navy, you will work on:
- Information technology systems and networks used by the Navy
- Cybersecurity and data protection
- Software systems and digital infrastructure
- IT administration at naval bases, ships, and establishments across India
It is a commissioned officer role — which means you will hold a gazetted rank, wear a uniform, and be addressed as an officer of the Indian Navy. You will be inducted at the rank of Sub Lieutenant.

4. Who can apply — age limit
You must have been born between the following dates (both dates inclusive):

This means you must be between approximately 19 and 25 years old as on the date of commencement of course (January 2027).
5. Educational qualification
You must meet both of the following conditions:
Condition 1 — English marks in school
You must have scored a minimum of 60% marks in English in either Class X or Class XII (whichever is higher).
Condition 2 — Qualifying degree
You must have a qualifying degree with a minimum of 60% overall marks in one of the following:

6. Physical and medical standards
All candidates recommended by SSB must pass a medical examination conducted by the Naval Medical Board. The standards are strict. There is no relaxation in medical standards for any reason.
Key requirements to keep in mind:
- Good eyesight is required. Specific standards for distant and near vision apply.
- Height and weight must be within prescribed naval standards.
- You should be physically fit with no serious medical conditions.
- Use of narcotics is strictly banned. You may be tested at any point during selection, medical examination, or training.
7. Salary and benefits
As a commissioned officer in the Indian Navy, your compensation is very good — especially when you consider the allowances, free accommodation, and other perks that come with the job.
Pay structure (as per 7th Pay Commission)
During training, Flight Cadets receive a fixed stipend of Rs. 56,100 per month for one year.

8. Service terms — how long do you serve?

- If you voluntarily withdraw from initial training or resign during the probation period, you must refund all training costs and allowances received during that period.
- Only unmarried candidates are eligible for training. If you get married during training, you will be discharged and must refund all pay and allowances received.
- SSC officers are not entitled to a pension. They receive a gratuity and other terminal benefits at the end of their service.
- Selected candidates may be posted and transferred anywhere in India or at sea.
9. Selection process — how are candidates selected?

Online Application and Shortlisting
You apply online at www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. Shortlisting is done based on normalised marks in your qualifying degree. Not everyone who applies is called for SSB. Only shortlisted candidates are informed by email or SMS. -
SSB Interview — 5 days
SSB stands for Services Selection Board. It is a 5-day residential interview process held at naval selection centres. It includes psychological tests, group tasks, group discussions, and a personal interview. This tests your overall personality, leadership potential, and suitability for service as an officer. -
Medical Examination
Candidates recommended by SSB must pass a medical examination at a designated naval hospital. The medical board’s decision is final and binding. -
Merit List and Final Selection
A final merit list is prepared based on SSB marks combined with educational qualification marks. Candidates on the merit list are offered a position subject to vacancies and police verification. -
Training at INA Ezhimala, Kerala
Selected candidates join the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala, Kerala for initial officer training starting January 2027. They are inducted at the rank of Sub Lieutenant.

Upload documents
Upload your photograph and signature in the prescribed format. Keep all original documents ready — Class X and XII marksheets, degree certificate or final year hall ticket, date of birth proof, NCC certificate (if applicable), and CGPA conversion formula from your university (if applicable). -
Submit and take a printout
Submit the application. Once submitted, no changes can be made. Take a printout of the application. The application, once submitted, is final.

- You must be unmarried at the time of joining. Marriage during training leads to discharge and full refund of training costs.
- Apply only once. Multiple applications from the same candidate will result in cancellation of all applications.
- Do not change your email ID or mobile number during the entire selection process — all call letters and communications are sent electronically.
- The merit list is based on normalised marks in your qualifying degree — so your academic performance matters for shortlisting.
- Candidates with NCC Air Wing ‘C’ certificate may get a 5% relaxation in cut-off marks for SSB shortlisting (subject to meeting minimum qualifying criteria).
- All information you provide in the application is considered final. If any information is found false at any stage — even after joining — your candidature will be cancelled and you may face further action.
- The Indian Navy reserves the right to cancel this recruitment at any time without giving a reason.
