IIM Mumbai BS Digital Science 2026: India’s First IIM Undergraduate Programme — Admission, Fees and Eligibility

The Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai) — formerly NITIE Mumbai, ranked among India’s top 10 management institutions — has launched India’s first ever IIM undergraduate programme: a 4-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Digital Science and Business Management. Unlike IPMAT-based IIM programmes, this one uses JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 scores for admission. Only 70 seats are available for the first batch. First batch starts July 2026. Application deadline: 15 June 2026.

1. What is this programme and why is it unique?

Every IIM in India offers MBA and executive management programmes — but none has ever offered an undergraduate degree directly after Class 12. IIM Mumbai has changed that. This BS in Digital Science and Business Management is the first undergraduate degree from any IIM in India that specifically targets students who want to combine technology with management.

What makes it special:

  • IIM brand at the UG level — you graduate with a degree from an IIM without needing to crack CAT after your bachelor’s
  • JEE Main based — not IPMAT, not CUET — JEE Main Paper 1 scores are used, making it accessible to lakhs of JEE aspirants
  • Technology + Management fusion — covers AI, Data Science, IoT, Blockchain, and Hyper-Automation alongside core business strategy and management
  • Only 70 seats — making this one of the most exclusive undergraduate programmes in India
  • Full residential programme — at a satellite campus in Pune
  • First batch July 2026 — you would be a founding batch student with lifelong alumni distinction
Why this matters for India’s job market: India is facing a massive shortage of professionals who understand both technology and business. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Google, McKinsey, and startups alike are looking for people who can make technical decisions with a business perspective. This programme is designed to produce exactly those professionals — making graduates highly employable at the intersection of tech and management.

3. Eligibility criteria

Educational qualification

  • Must have passed Class 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board in India
  • Mathematics and Physics are compulsory subjects in Class 12
  • Minimum 60% aggregate marks in Class 12 for General, EWS, and NC-OBC candidates
  • Minimum 55% aggregate marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates
  • Students currently appearing in Class 12 examinations (2026 board exams) can also apply — they must upload their marksheet on the IIM Mumbai admission portal by 30 June 2026

Age limit

  • General / EWS / NC-OBC candidates: Must be born on or after 1 August 2006
  • SC / ST / PwD candidates: Born on or after 1 August 2001 (5 years relaxation)

Entrance exam requirement

  • A valid JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 score is mandatory
  • JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA)
  • Both January 2026 and April 2026 session scores are accepted
  • No minimum JEE Main score or percentile is specified — all valid JEE Main 2026 scorers can apply
  • JEE Main score is used for shortlisting — higher score means better shortlisting chances
Important: You must apply for JEE Main 2026 separately through NTA (jeemain.nta.ac.in) and then apply to IIM Mumbai separately through the IIM Mumbai admission portal. Having a JEE Main score alone does not mean you are automatically considered for this programme — you must fill the IIM Mumbai application separately.
Commerce students can also apply. While Physics and Mathematics are required in Class 12, students from the Commerce stream who have taken Mathematics and Physics as additional subjects are also eligible. This is unlike most engineering programmes which require PCM as the main stream. The programme welcomes students from diverse backgrounds who have these two subjects.

4. Admission process — how selection works

  1. JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 — shortlisting (70% weightage)
Your JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 score carries 70% weight in the final selection. IIM Mumbai will shortlist candidates category-wise based on JEE Main scores. The cutoff will be determined by IIM Mumbai based on the number of applications and vacancies. Since there are only 70 seats total (across all categories), shortlisting will be highly competitive.
  2. Personal Interview — (30% weightage)
Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview. The interview assesses your aptitude for the intersection of technology and management, communication skills, analytical thinking, and motivation for choosing this unique programme. Prepare to discuss why you are interested in digital science, business management, and how the two connect.
  3. Final merit list preparation
The final merit list is prepared combining 70% JEE Main score + 30% interview score. Government of India reservation policy (OBC 27%, SC 15%, ST 7.5%, EWS 10%, PwD 5% horizontal) applies. IIM Mumbai’s decision on cutoffs and shortlisting criteria is final.
  4. Document verification and admission offer
Selected candidates receive an admission offer and must complete document verification. Class 12 appearing students must submit their final marksheet showing the required percentage by 30 June 2026. Failure to meet the eligibility marks after results leads to automatic cancellation of admission.
Selection is highly competitive. With only 70 seats and JEE Main as the entrance exam — the same exam cracked by hundreds of thousands of engineering aspirants — the cutoff for IIM Mumbai BS is expected to be high. Based on the prestige of the institution and the uniqueness of the programme, candidates with a JEE Main percentile above 90 are likely to be competitive.

Total tuition fees (4 years)₹24 – ₹32 lakh

Total programme cost (all-inclusive estimate)₹28 – ₹36 lakh over 4 years
Fee context: IIM Mumbai’s MBA programme costs ₹21 lakh for 2 years. This 4-year BS programme at ₹24–32 lakh is more affordable on a per-year basis than the MBA — though the total outlay is higher due to longer duration. Educational loans are available from all major banks for IIM programmes. The IIM brand significantly enhances repayment capacity through strong placement outcomes.
These are estimated figures. IIM Mumbai has not published the final detailed fee structure as of May 2026. The exact fee breakup will be available in the official admission brochure on iimmumbai.ac.in. Always verify the current fee structure before applying.

8. What you will study — curriculum overview

12. Frequently asked questions

Do I need to appear for JEE Advanced or only JEE Main?
Only JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 is required. JEE Advanced is not needed for this programme. You do not need to qualify for JEE Advanced — just appearing for JEE Main 2026 and obtaining a valid score is sufficient to apply to IIM Mumbai BS. Both the January and April 2026 sessions of JEE Main are accepted.
I am from the Commerce stream with Mathematics and Physics. Can I apply?
Yes. The eligibility requires Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects in Class 12 — it does not require you to be from the Science stream specifically. Commerce students who have taken Mathematics and Physics as compulsory or elective subjects in Class 12 are eligible. However, you must have appeared for JEE Main 2026 Paper 1, which is primarily attempted by Science stream students.
Will I get an MBA degree after completing this 4-year BS programme?
No. This is a standalone 4-year BS (Bachelor of Science) degree. You will graduate with a BS in Digital Science and Business Management from IIM Mumbai — not an MBA. If you want an MBA, you would need to appear for CAT after completing this degree and apply to MBA programmes at IIM Mumbai or other IIMs separately. Some students may find that this BS degree from an IIM is sufficiently prestigious for their career goals without needing a separate MBA.
What JEE Main percentile should I target for IIM Mumbai BS?
Since this is the first batch and no cutoff data exists, an exact figure cannot be given. However, with only 70 seats total and the programme’s prestige, competition is expected to be significant. Candidates with a JEE Main percentile of 90 and above are likely to be competitive for shortlisting, though actual cutoffs will be determined after applications close in June 2026. Higher percentile always means better chances.
Where exactly is the campus — is it in Mumbai?
The first batch of the BS programme will be conducted at IIM Mumbai’s satellite campus in Pune — not at the main Mumbai campus (Powai). The exact location within Pune has not been officially disclosed as of May 2026. This is expected to change as the institution builds out its physical infrastructure. Check iimmumbai.ac.in for the latest campus information.
Can I pursue this degree alongside another college or degree?
No. This is a full-time residential programme. You are expected to be present at the campus full-time for the entire 4 years. It cannot be pursued alongside another degree or while working. Being a residential programme also means you will live at the campus accommodation facility throughout your studies.
How is IIM Mumbai different from NITIE Mumbai?
IIM Mumbai was established by converting the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) into an Indian Institute of Management in 2023. NITIE was a premier management institution known for specialisation in industrial engineering, operations, and supply chain management. As IIM Mumbai, it now carries the IIM brand and recognition under the Indian Institutes of Management Act. The BS programme is the first major new initiative launched under the IIM Mumbai identity.
