1. What is SMFCL?

Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFCL) — formerly known as Sagarmala Development Company Limited (SDCL) — is a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. It is registered as a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

SMFCL’s core focus areas are:

  • Maritime financing — funding for port infrastructure, shipbuilding, and waterway development
  • Coastal connectivity — financing projects that connect coastal communities and ports
  • Shipbuilding support — providing financial assistance to India’s shipbuilding industry
  • Sagarmala Programme implementation — serving as the nodal financial agency for India’s ambitious port-led coastal development programme
Why SMFCL is a unique career opportunity: Very few people know about SMFCL — making competition for these posts significantly lower than equivalent roles at better-known PSUs like NTPC or Coal India. As a Mini Ratna CPSE with RBI-registered NBFC status, SMFCL offers IDA pay scales, full government perquisites, and the opportunity to work at the intersection of maritime infrastructure and finance. All posts are permanent — not contractual.

In addition to the IDA pay scale, regular executive employees at SMFCL receive:

  • Dearness Allowance (DA) — revised quarterly on IDA scale
  • HRA or Leased accommodation — house rent allowance or company-leased housing
  • Performance Related Pay (PRP) — annual variable pay
  • Provident Fund (PF) and NPS contributions
  • Medical facilities for self and dependents
  • Gratuity as per Payment of Gratuity Act
  • Leave encashment, LTC, and other standard executive perquisites
IDA vs CDA pay scale: SMFCL uses IDA (Industrial Dearness Allowance) pay scales — the same structure used by major PSUs like NTPC, Coal India, and ONGC. IDA pay scales are separate from the 7th Pay Commission CDA scales used by central government departments. IDA salaries at the E-5 to E-7 level are highly competitive — typically ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh gross per month at senior grades.

9. Selection process

  1. Shortlisting of applications
SMFCL will shortlist candidates based on their qualification, relevant experience, suitability for the specific post, and overall profile. Simply meeting the minimum eligibility does not guarantee shortlisting. Candidates with direct experience in NBFC / maritime infrastructure / finance will be preferred.
  2. Personal interview / assessment
Shortlisted candidates are called for a personal interview or professional assessment. The interview tests domain knowledge, relevant experience, and suitability for the role. For senior posts like CRO, CCO, and HIA — the interview will be very detailed on NBFC regulatory framework and domain expertise.
  3. Document verification
Selected candidates must produce all original documents — degree certificates, experience certificates, age proof, CA/CMA membership certificates, and any other documents as required. Government or PSU employees must submit an NOC from their current employer.
No written exam. The selection is entirely through shortlisting and interview — no CBT, no aptitude test, no group discussion. Your professional profile, experience quality, and interview performance decide everything.

10. Application fee

There is no application fee for SMFCL Recruitment 2026. All candidates — across all categories and all posts — can apply completely free of charge.

11. How to apply

  1. Visit the official SMFCL website
Go to www.smfcl.co.in and look for the Careers / Recruitment section. The online application portal is active from 20 May 2026. Alternatively, check the official notification link published in Employment News 23–29 May 2026.
  2. Download and read the official notification PDF
Download the complete notification PDF from smfcl.co.in. Read the post-wise experience requirements very carefully — the experience criteria for senior posts are detailed and specific. Applying for a wrong post wastes your application.
  3. Fill the online application form
Fill in all personal details, qualification details, and complete work experience details. For experience — mention the organisation name, designation, grade/level, dates of joining and relieving, and a brief description of responsibilities. Quality of experience description matters for shortlisting.
  4. Upload documents and submit
Upload your photograph, signature, degree certificates, experience certificates, and CA/CMA membership certificate if applicable. No fee payment required. Submit before 18 June 2026 at 11:45 PM. Download a copy of your submitted application for your records.

12. Frequently asked questions

What exactly does SMFCL do — is it a real PSU?
Yes, SMFCL is a fully government-owned CPSE (Central Public Sector Enterprise). It is under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and is registered as an NBFC with the Reserve Bank of India. It was formerly known as Sagarmala Development Company Limited (SDCL). Its primary role is financing maritime infrastructure projects under India’s Sagarmala Programme — including port development, coastal roads, and shipbuilding. It is a Schedule B, Mini Ratna Category-I company.
Are these posts permanent or contractual?
These 13 posts are on a regular (permanent) basis — not contractual. This is clearly stated in the notification. SMFCL has previously also hired on fixed-term contractual basis (like the Finance posts in March 2026), but this current recruitment is for regular permanent executive positions with full IDA pay scales and perquisites.
I am a CA with 3 years of post-qualification experience. Which Finance post should I apply for?
With 3 years of post-qualification CA experience, you would best fit the Assistant Manager (E-2, Finance) post. The Senior Manager (E-5) typically requires 6–8 years of executive experience. The Chief Manager (E-6) requires 10–12 years. Apply for the level that genuinely matches your experience — applying for a higher level without sufficient experience typically results in rejection at the shortlisting stage.
I have a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of experience in infrastructure project management. Am I eligible?
Yes, you are eligible for the Projects department posts. B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with 60% marks is one of the qualifying degrees for Projects posts. With 5 years of experience, you would be most suitable for the Senior Manager (E-5) or Assistant Manager (E-2) Projects posts depending on your experience level and nature of work. If your experience has been in NBFC, maritime, or port infrastructure financing — that would strengthen your application significantly.
What is the CISO post — is it a cybersecurity job?
Yes. CISO stands for Chief Information Security Officer. This is a senior IT and cybersecurity leadership post responsible for SMFCL’s information security strategy, cyber risk management, IT systems security, and regulatory compliance related to data and technology. The role requires an engineering degree in CS/IT/Electronics or an MCA, along with preferred certifications like CISSP, CEH, CISA, CISM, or CCISO. It is a senior leadership position — relevant for experienced IT security professionals with at least 15–20 years of experience.
I am currently working at a private company. Do I need an NOC to apply?
If you are working in the private sector, you do not need an NOC to apply or for the interview stage. You will simply need to resign and serve your notice period before joining if selected. An NOC is required only for candidates currently working in government departments, PSUs, or autonomous bodies — they must get permission from their current employer before applying.
