1. CIL MT CBT vs CIL MT GATE — what is the difference?
Coal India has released two separate MT recruitments in 2026. Many candidates confuse them. Here is the simple difference:

6. Educational qualification — key points
- All degrees must be full-time regular courses from a recognised University or Institution approved by AICTE / UGC. Distance, correspondence, and online degrees are not valid.
- Minimum marks for General / OBC / EWS candidates: 60% aggregate across all semesters.
- Minimum marks for SC / ST / PwBD candidates: 55% aggregate.
- Final year students whose results are expected by 31 August 2026 can also apply. They must upload marksheets up to the latest available semester. Their results must show the required percentage by the document verification stage.
- For the System discipline specifically: the degree must be First Class (not just 60%) in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / IT or MCA.
- For Geology: you need M.Sc. or M.Tech — a B.Sc. in Geology alone is not sufficient.
- For Company Secretary: any graduation degree + Associate (ACS) or Fellow (FCS) membership of ICSI is required.
7. Exam pattern — Paper I and Paper II
The CBT is conducted in a single sitting of 3 hours. It has two papers of 100 marks each:
- General Knowledge / Awareness
- Reasoning
- Numerical Ability
- General English
- Questions from your specific discipline
- Civil: Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulics etc.
- Electrical: Power systems, Machines, Electronics
- System: CS/IT/Programming concepts
- Geology: Mineralogy, Petrology, Stratigraphy

9. Service bond

10. Selection process

Computer Based Test (CBT) — Paper I + Paper II
3-hour CBT with 200 MCQ questions total. Paper I covers GK, Reasoning, Numerical, English (100 marks). Paper II covers your discipline-specific professional knowledge (100 marks). No negative marking. Bilingual — English and Hindi. The entire final selection is based on CBT marks only. -
Document Verification (DV)
Candidates shortlisted based on CBT merit list are called for document verification. Produce all original documents — degree, marksheets, age proof, category certificate, and NOC from current employer (if you are a government or PSU employee). -
Initial Medical Examination (IME)
After DV, selected candidates undergo a medical examination by CIL’s Medical Committee. The offer of appointment is issued only after both DV and IME are successfully completed.

Fill the form and upload documents
Enter all personal, academic, and professional details. Upload scanned copies of photograph, signature, degree certificates, marksheets (all semesters), age proof, and category certificate. If your degree result is in CGPA, upload the conversion formula from your university. -
Pay the fee and submit
Pay ₹1,180 online if applicable. SC, ST, PwBD, and CIL employees pay nothing. Review all entries carefully. Submit and download a printout of your application and payment receipt for your records.
