Trade Finance is a specialised area of banking that deals with international trade transactions — Letters of Credit (LC), Bank Guarantees (BG), Bills for Collection, Export/Import financing, and Forex operations. When an Indian company imports machinery from Germany or exports textiles to the USA, the bank facilitates and finances these transactions through trade finance products.
SBI handles a massive volume of international trade transactions every day. A Trade Finance Officer at SBI will:
- Process Letters of Credit (LC) — both import and export
- Handle Bank Guarantees and Standby LCs
- Process Bills for Collection — documentary and clean bills
- Handle forex remittances and foreign exchange transactions
- Ensure compliance with FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) and RBI guidelines
- Verify UCP 600 and URDG rules compliance for trade documents
- Coordinate with correspondent banks globally
- Handle trade finance-related customer queries and disputes
